Congratulations to teachers Jessica Yen, Katie McNally, and Laura Mondfrans for their innovative Co-Teaching Program!
Kent Awards are given to outstanding and innovative programs either in the classroom or outside the classroom as well as district-wide programs. Applicants must demonstrate their programs promote student success, employ a high degree of creativity, and demonstrate transferability. Named after past San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools, J. Russell Kent, SMCSBA initiated the program in the 1980-81 school year.
BURLINGAME ROTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR: MR. TINKHAM
Mr. Tinkham is a teacher, collaborator, mentor, and friend to many in our BIS community. Mr. Tinkham is an academic with a deep appreciation for discovering connections and themes across literature, US history, and present-day affairs.
As John Muir once said, “When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.”
Mr. Tinkham brings this passion and genuine curiosity to his classroom each day inspiring students to learn more about themselves, their community and the broader world while gathering insights from an examination of identity, power, and justice through the school year. Mr. Tinkham has a fantastic sense of humor, and can often see to the heart of a situation for students so that they feel supported and understood. Mr. Tinkham is deeply admired by his team and appreciated within the BIS community for the strength of character, conviction, and thoughtfulness he brings to every aspect of his work.
